After Beyoncé, my second favorite pop star is Ariana. While it’s easy to write off the pony and the first albums as manufactured sucrose, her work has evolved with her detonative image. There’s the way she got rapidly engaged at 25, and thus was blamed by the internet for the death of her ex, who had an accidental overdose alone that year. There’s the Manchester Arena bombing which claimed 23 lives and wounded 800 more fans as they left her concert. She’s been in show biz half her life and in therapy since her parents’ divorce over a decade ago. Ariana has anxiety and PTSD, yet speaks up because she knows that everybody needs to come back down, even if the reasons vary. Here’s one song about it. 7YL Theme Media “15 Things People with Suicidal Thoughts Want You to Know” by Anna Borges (Buzzfeed) I mentioned in the essay that I wanted to get accidentally hit by a car and how I was told that was a suicidal thought by a professional counselor. Dissociated from those past feelings, I looked into the “suicidal” label again as this was not a plan I ever made or tried. To clarify, this is considered passive suicidal ideation, which means “chronically not wanting to be alive, but not actively wanting to die.” It’s still considered suicidal and requires attention to recover.
